A state-by-state shortlist of open public-use airports with a useful paved runway, FAA-listed facilities and observed Sprinkle flight activity. It identifies reporting leads—not award winners.

No winners have been selected. Every finalist is marked “pending editorial review.” Verify the facilities, access, local character and activity with the airport before naming or publishing a winner.

Up to three algorithmic finalists are shown per state or US jurisdiction. The evidence score is a reproducible screening tool, not a quality rating.

Screening rules

How finalists were found

Kept FAA airports that are open, public-use and in the United States.
Required an asphalt or concrete runway of at least 3,000 feet that is not reported as poor or failed.
Required FAA-listed fuel and at least two of repair, other pilot services, storage or runway lighting.
Required at least one tracked arrival or departure from 5 May to 20 July 2026.
Scored runway length (1–3 points), fuel, repair, pilot services, storage and lighting (one point each), and the observed-activity band (0–2 points). Kept up to three per jurisdiction.

Editorial approval

What the data cannot decide

The score cannot assess welcome, scenery, food, ground access, service quality, safety or community value. Tracking is incomplete for general aviation, while FAA facility fields can be stale. Call each finalist, check current notices and collect qualitative evidence.

The CSV includes review_status, review_notes and approved_winner. All start pending, blank and false. An editor must record the evidence and explicitly approve any winner.
